Yum Yum. I love all these ideas. I'm definitely going to freeze some. That makes it just as convenient as the tinned ones- and much more delicious.

My mouths watering now. I'm off to soak some chickpeas...

YUM!! I came across a website the other day which was talking about cooking chickpeas in a pressure cooker - it is apparently much much quicker. Haven't got my hands on one yet though. Will have to try marrocan flavours too.... yum!

I have been cooking bulk chickpeas in the slowcooker (soaked first) and then freezing in 2 cup portions in the freezer. So much cheaper and nicer than canned. They do make a great savoury snack when you roast them - very moreish!

That's a great idea as I use them for all of those dishes too! (I haven't tried roasting them but I think I just might have to give it a go). Thanks again. x

Yes Sam they are great and you can get them at any Indian market in big bags. I always thought it would be such a hassle to cook them from scratch but as long as you get them soaking the night before and are happy to pop them in a saucepan of water and let them simmer for about 45mins then they are delicious! Just have to plan ahead...but I try to do quite a big batch and then store them in the fridge to do different things with them like hummus, roast them in the oven with herbs and salt as a snack, add them to salads, soups, curries, etc.

Thanks Brooke, Sonia and Ann Marie for your beautiful messages. It makes it much easier to be eco-friendly when they are some of our favourite things to do, like vintage and antiques shopping. Any excuse! I've recently moved to Maleny/Montville area in the Sunshine Coast hinterland (QLD, Australia) and there are sooo many places to go fossicking!

I agree Brooke and Sonia. I too still eat a little meat but still learn a lot from Amanda. I'm definitely 'greener' because of her.

I didn't need any encouragement in secondhand shopping. I have a heap of furniture from op-shops in Denmark. I have a slight obsession with buying antique stools.
